“What Can I Say” – Mary Oliver

What can I say that I have not said before?
So I’ll say it again.
The leaf has a song in it.
Stone is the face of patience.
Inside the river there is an unfinishable story
and you are somewhere in it
and it will never end until all ends.

Take your busy heart to the art museum and the
chamber of commerce
but take it also to the forest.
The song you heard singing in the leaf when you
were a child
is singing still.
I am of years lived, so far, seventy-four,
and the leaf is singing still.

~ “What Can I Say” from Swan by Mary Oliver ~

I love this bit:

“Take your busy heart to the art museum and the
chamber of commerce
but take it also to the forest.

To quote Miss Oliver both the spiritual and the life of this world need our attention; “if you skimp on one or the other, you’re not getting the whole show. You have to be in the world to understand what the spiritual is about, and you have to be spiritual in order to truly be able to accept what the world is about.”

I have to take the time out so that I can be the person I want to be.

That’s what I’m thinking. I’d love to know *your* thoughts!
